WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team kicked off 2004 by hosting College Misericordia, Saturday afternoon, for a non-conference contest. The Warriors overcame a three-point halftime deficit to defeat the Cougars 74-62. Lycoming improves to 6-2 on the season, while Misericordia falls to 3-3.

The Cougars got off to a fast start opening up an eight-point advantage five minutes into the game. The Warriors, however, chipped away and took their first lead of the game with 4:27 to play in the opening period. Misericordia recovered to take a 35-32 lead into the locker room.

In the second half the lead changed hands seven times before Lycoming took control of the game with seven minutes to play. With the score tied at 54-54 with 7:12 to play the Warriors tallied a free throw and two lay-ups to open up a five-point lead. Lycoming’s defense did the rest, holding the Cougars to just eight points over the final five minutes as the home team extended their lead to 12 by game’s end.

Senior Matt Stackhouse (Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) led the Warriors with 25 points and 14 rebounds in the game. Jonathan Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) added 19 markers and L.J. Huggler (Sr./St. Mary’s, Pa.; St. Mary’s) chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Shaun Morris (Jr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) led the squad with six assists.
