WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team hosted Elizabethtown College, Tuesday evening, in a clash featuring the defending Freedom Conference and Commonwealth Conference champions. The Warriors controlled the action for much of the night, but had to overcome a late flurry by the Blue Jays that forced the game into overtime where Lycoming eventually claimed the 92-89 victory. The Warriors improve to 3-0 overall, while Elizabethtown falls to 2-1.

The Blue Jays full-court pressure defense paid some early dividends as seven Lycoming turnovers helped the visitors build a 17-10 lead early in the first half. The Warriors, however, weathered the storm and began chipping away at the deficit. Tied at 26-26 with six minutes to play in the half, Lycoming used an 8-0 run as a spark for the remainder of the period as they built a 44-31 lead at the intermission.

The Warriors threatened to run away with the game early in the second half, stretching their lead to 16 with 13 minutes to play. This time it was Elizabethtown that would respond, going on a 21-4 run over the next six minutes to take a one-point lead.

The game remained in question in the final minute as a three-pointer by the Blue Jays’ Greg Brizek knotted the game at 77-77 with 11 seconds to play. Lycoming’s Jonathan Pribble (Jr./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) was fouled at the other end after a long in-bound pass and made two free-throws with eight seconds remaining to give the Warriors a 79-77 lead. Brizek, however, came up huge for Elizabethtown, again, driving to the basket for a game-tying lay-up.

In the extra period, the Blue Jays held a three-point lead after two minutes but a three-pointer by Shaun Morris (Sr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) tied the game at 84-84. Lycoming regained the lead at 86-84 on a jump shot by Pribble with two minutes to play. From there the Warriors would win the game from the free-throw line as Pribble and Morris combined to go 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. Elizabethtown recorded a pair of field goals and a free throw, but a three-pointer as time expired failed to fall giving Lycoming the victory.

Pribble led all players with 37 points and 10 rebounds in the game. His next-to-last point during regulation gave him 1,000 for his career in just the third game of his junior season. Jeremiah Edison (Sr./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) added 14 points and 11 rebounds to also record a double-double. Morris contributed nine points, including six in overtime, and tallied 10 assists in the contest.

The Blue Jays were led by Dan Keane with 23 points and nine rebounds. Kyle Conrad added 21 points and seven assists, while Greg Adams chipped in 17 markers.

The Warriors will be at home, again, for their next game when they host the University of Scranton for their conference opener on Wednesday, December 1. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
