WARRIOR MEN’S BASKETBALL SUFFERS LOSS AT DESALES
Enters Conference Tournament at Number Three Seed

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team traveled to DeSales University, Saturday afternoon, for a battle for first place in the Freedom Conference. The Warriors came up short, however, falling to the Bulldogs 62-71. The loss drops Lycoming to third in the conference behind DeSales and King’s College. The Warriors will travel to King’s for a semifinal match-up in the conference tournament on Wednesday, February 25. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Lycoming is now 18-7 on the season, while the Bulldogs improved to 22-3.

The Warriors got off to a strong start, scoring the first five points and holding a 10-5 advantage five minutes into the game. DeSales, however, went on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes to open up an 18-10 lead. Lycoming’s deficit would grow as large as 12 points before heading to the locker room trailing 26-37.

In the second half, the Warriors chipped away at the Bulldogs’ lead only to have the home team find an answer every time. Late in the period, Lycoming used a 7-0 run to pull within five points with 2:24 to play, but could get no closer, scoring just two points the rest of the way.

Jonathan Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) led the Warriors with 18 points and nine rebounds in the contest. L.J. Huggler (Sr./St. Marys, Pa.; St. Marys) added 12 points and four boards. Matt Stackhouse (Sr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) scored eight points, but played only 14 minutes of the game.

DeSales was led by Michael Venafra with 22 points. Jim Zinn added 13 markers and David Spadt chipped in 11.
