WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team
hosted Alfred University, Friday evening, for the opening game
of the Lycoming College Tip-Off Tourney. The Warriors overcame a
15-point deficit in the second half to force overtime and
eventually defeat the Saxons, 88-82. Lycoming will now face
SUNY-Geneseo in the championship game tomorrow afternoon.
The Warriors
got off to a slow start in the offensive end, falling behind
29-39 by halftime. Alfred extended their lead to 49-34 three
minutes into the second half, but Lycoming began chipping away
and closed within three points with nine minutes remaining. Two
minutes later they took their first lead of the game.
The Saxon
kept their composure down the stretch, however, and Quentin
Bryant hit a three-pointer with seven seconds to play that tied
the game at 76-76 and forced the extra period.
For a while
it looked like one overtime might not be enough as the two teams
remained deadlocked at 80-80 three minutes in. But the Warriors
pulled away in the final minutes outscoring Alfred 8-2 over the
final 120 seconds.
Jonathan
Pribble (Jr./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain)
led Lycoming with a game-high 31 points and seven rebounds.
Freshman Kevin Morris (Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) added 15
points, including three three-pointers. Jeremiah Edison
(Sr./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) contributed 12 points
and six rebounds. Shaun Morris (Sr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity)
tallied six assists, while scoring eight points.
Bryant led
the Saxons with 28 points in the contest. Dillon Stein added 21
markers, while Ryan Hallett and Ryan Clemenson each scored 12
points.
In the
second game of the evening, Geneseo defeated John Jay, 73-56.
Joe Zera scored a game-high 25 points for the Knights. The
Bloodhounds were led by James Clark with 17 points.
John Jay and
Alfred will play at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, with Lycoming and
Geneseo to follow at approximately 4 p.m. |
