WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming
College men’s basketball team hosted Delaware Valley College,
Saturday afternoon, for a Freedom Conference contest. The
Warriors pulled out to a double-digit lead in the first half and
then withstood an Aggie comeback late in the second half to
record an 87-83 victory. Lycoming improves to 15-6 overall and
6-4 within the conference with the win. Delaware Valley falls to
8-13 and 3-7.
The Warriors started strong
building a 13-6 lead five minutes into the game and then
extending their advantage to 15 by halftime thanks to a 10-0 run
late in the period.
Lycoming maintained control early
in the second half, with the home team’s lead swelling to as
many as 19. The Aggies, however, turned up the defensive
intensity, forced some turnovers and made a run at the Warriors.
Trailing 60-43 with 15 minutes to play, Delaware Valley went on
a 10-2 run to close within single digits. Lycoming tried to
rebuild their lead, pushing their advantage to 84-70 with five
minutes to play. The Aggies would score the next 11 points to
close within three points with less than a minute to play. The
Warriors, however, secured the victory by hitting 3-of-4 free
throws in the final 20 seconds.
Jonathan Pribble (Jr./Woolrich,
Pa.; Central Mountain)
led all players with 31 points in
the game. He also added five rebounds, four assists, and four
blocked shots. Kevin Morris (Fr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity)
added 16 points on the strength of four three-pointers.
Curtis Mays (Jr./Philadelphia, Pa.; University City) and
Jeremiah Edison (Sr./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) came off
the bench to chip in 12 and 11 points, respectively. Edison also
led the squad with six rebounds. Shaun Morris (Sr./Camp Hill,
Pa.; Trinity) and Brad Musser (Jr./Mifflinburg, Pa.;
Mifflinburg) each recorded nine assists in the contest.
Delaware Valley was led by Meril
Branch with 25 points. Isaiah Pinckney added 23 points and three
assists. Randall Graves and Maurice Slaughter each chipped in 10
markers. Orlon Baker led all players with 13 boards.
Lycoming will play again on
Wednesday, February 9, when they travel to King’s College for
another conference tilt. |
