Warriors Fall in Conference Opener
Boxscore

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming men's basketball lost its second game at home this season to the University of Scranton 65-55 on Wednesday evening as the two squads opened their Freedom Conference schedules.  Lycoming falls to 2-3, 0-1 while Scranton improves to 4-1, 1-0.

Shooting proved the major downfall for the Warriors as they managed just a 30.4 percent showing compared to 39.6 percent for the Royals.  With both squads ranked at the top of the conference in three-point shooting, many expected the contest to be a long-distance shoot out.  But neither squad could routinely find the touch from beyond the arc as they shot a combined 8-for-32 from three-point range.

Warrior senior forward Jonathan Pribble (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) led the team in scoring for the fifth consecutive game with 18 points, but he did so on an uncustomary 4-of-16 performance from the floor.  He did convert seven of eight  attempts from the charity stripe.  Sophomore guard Dave Wilson (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) had a strong night with 13 points on 5-for-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds.

Royal point guard Randy Arnold benefited from a 9-for-10 showing from the free throw line to lead all scorers with 27 points.  He also added seven boards.

Lycoming trailed at the half by only five points following a rocky first half of play.  The Royals quickly turned their meager intermission edge into a 12-point advantage just a little over two minutes into the second stanza.

Scranton's lead would hover between 10 and seven points for much of the half until the Warriors drew within five at 57-52 with 2:38 remaining in the game.  That would be as close as the Warriors would get as they didn't score again until under a minute left to play.  Scranton closed out the effort by canning its final five free throw attempts.

The Warriors are next in action on Saturday, December 3, as FDU-Florham travels to Williamsport for a Freedom Conference match up.  Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium.
