LYCOMING MEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS
HEARTBREAKER IN OVERTIME AT SCRANTON
SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lycoming
College men’s basketball team traveled to the University of
Scranton, Wednesday evening, for a Freedom Conference tilt. The
Warriors overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to force an
extra period, but ultimately fell in overtime to the Royals,
77-75. Lycoming slips to 14-6 overall and 5-4 within the
conference with the loss. Scranton improves to 15-4 and 6-3.
The Warriors started strong
opening up a 12-8 advantage six minutes into the contest, but
the Royals gained control through the rest of the first period,
building an eight-point lead by halftime.
Scranton stretched their lead to
as many as 15 with just 6:16 remaining in the second half, but
could not put Lycoming away. The Warriors responded with a 19-4
run to close regulation play and force overtime.
In the extra period, Jonathan
Pribble (Jr./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) hit a
three-pointer to put Lycoming ahead 67-64. The Royals, however,
regained the lead when Brian O’Donnell connected on a pair of
free throws with just less than two minutes to play. A steal and
another lay-up by O’Donnell gave Scranton a 74-71 advantage with
1:17 showing on the clock. The Warriors would twice close to
within one in the final minute and had a chance to win the game
with the final possession. Trailing by two with six seconds on
the clock, Lycoming in bounded the ball and moved beyond half
court, but Pribble’s three-point attempt at the buzzer fell just
short hitting off the front of the rim.
Pribble was the Warriors’ leading
scorer with 27 points in the game. Brad Musser
(Jr./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) added a career-high 22
points – 17 coming after halftime. He also recorded a game-high
six assists. Kevin Morris (Fr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity)
reached double-digits, as well, with 10 markers.
The Royals were led by O’Donnell
who ended the game with 30 points and 18 rebounds. Darren cannon
chipped in 16 points and Patrick Clabby contributed 12 markers.
Lycoming returns home for their
next game, hosting Delaware Valley College on Saturday, February
5, for a 3 p.m. tip-off. |
