LYCOMING MEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS HEARTBREAKER IN OVERTIME AT SCRANTON

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team traveled to the University of Scranton, Wednesday evening, for a Freedom Conference tilt. The Warriors overcame a 15-point second-half deficit to force an extra period, but ultimately fell in overtime to the Royals, 77-75. Lycoming slips to 14-6 overall and 5-4 within the conference with the loss. Scranton improves to 15-4 and 6-3.

The Warriors started strong opening up a 12-8 advantage six minutes into the contest, but the Royals gained control through the rest of the first period, building an eight-point lead by halftime.

Scranton stretched their lead to as many as 15 with just 6:16 remaining in the second half, but could not put Lycoming away. The Warriors responded with a 19-4 run to close regulation play and force overtime.

In the extra period, Jonathan Pribble (Jr./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) hit a three-pointer to put Lycoming ahead 67-64. The Royals, however, regained the lead when Brian O’Donnell connected on a pair of free throws with just less than two minutes to play. A steal and another lay-up by O’Donnell gave Scranton a 74-71 advantage with 1:17 showing on the clock. The Warriors would twice close to within one in the final minute and had a chance to win the game with the final possession. Trailing by two with six seconds on the clock, Lycoming in bounded the ball and moved beyond half court, but Pribble’s three-point attempt at the buzzer fell just short hitting off the front of the rim.

Pribble was the Warriors’ leading scorer with 27 points in the game. Brad Musser (Jr./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) added a career-high 22 points – 17 coming after halftime. He also recorded a game-high six assists. Kevin Morris (Fr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) reached double-digits, as well, with 10 markers.

The Royals were led by O’Donnell who ended the game with 30 points and 18 rebounds. Darren cannon chipped in 16 points and Patrick Clabby contributed 12 markers.

Lycoming returns home for their next game, hosting Delaware Valley College on Saturday, February 5, for a 3 p.m. tip-off.
