Warriors Dominate Hunter in
Season Opener
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. – Lycoming College men’s basketball shot a sparkling 52.7
percent
from
the field in trouncing Hunter College 88-58 in the opening game
of the 2005 Lycoming Tip-Off Tournament.
Senior
Jonathan Pribble (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) led all
scorers with 23 points. The d3hoops.com preseason All-American
Honorable Mention selection also snared nine rebounds and canned
a pair of three-pointers.
Freshmen
Greg Sye (Chantilly, Va./Chantilly) and Greg Woody
(Baltimore, Md./Mt. St. Joseph’s) had outstanding first
games in blue and gold. Sye showed excellent strength down low
with 19 points and 10 rebounds while Woody went 2-3 from deep
and 5-6 from the charity stripe in collecting 13 points in 13
minutes of play.
Hunter’s attack
was led by Tyrone Fosmire’s 13 points followed by 10
tallies apiece from Stephen Thomas and Nelson Pierre.
Naeem Mahmood grabbed a team-best six boards.
Lycoming
went into the half up 40-26 thanks to 13 points from Sye and an
overall strong shooting performance that saw the Warriors
clicking at a 57.7 percent clip from the field. Hunter managed
only a 37.0 percent (10-27) showing.
Pribble, rather
quiet in the first 20 minutes, exploded for 15 points in the
second stanza. Fosmire and Nelson did their best to keep Hunter
close with nine and eight points apiece, but Lycoming’s defense
tightened the clamps in the holding Hunter to 9-25 shooting
(36.0 percent). The Warriors also converted all 16 free throw
attempts in the second half.
Lycoming moves
on to face Widener University in the championship game on
Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Widener defeated Kean College
62-47 in the Friday night’s second affair. Kean and Hunter will
square off in the consolation match at 2:00 p.m.
