Musser Sets Lyco Single-Game Assists
Record
Box score
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Warrior senior point guard Brad Musser
(Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) set a new Lycoming
single-game record with 14 assists in the Warriors’ 67-42
victory over Elmira College on Saturday afternoon. Lycoming
improves to 5-4 on the season while Elmira falls to 2-5.
Musser,
who held the previous high assist-mark at 12 set last season
against FDU-Florham, sliced Elmira’s defense with pin-point
passing throughout the contest. On several occasions, he
needled passes to Warriors perched on the low-block that were
seemingly blocked from his view, but the outcome resulted in
several easy lay-ups for the Lycoming big men. His efforts
today moved him into second place all-time with 342 career
assists, just 13 shy 2005 graduate Shaun Morris for first
place.
Senior forward
Jonathan Pribble (Woolrich, Pa./Central Mountain) and
freshman post Greg Sye (Chantilly, Pa./Chantilly)
benefited most from Musser’s charitable afternoon with 15 points
apiece. Sye was most efficient with his chances, making 7-of-8
field goal attempts. Pribble, who canned a trio of
three-pointers and added a game-best eight rebounds, moves into
second place on the Warriors all-time scoring list with 1,630
career points. He trails Richard Henninger (1970-74) for the
top spot at 2,184 points.
Senior wing
Patrick Baylor (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O’Hara) added 10
scores for the Warriors and came away with three steals.
Freshman forward Shawn Harper (Piscataway, N.J./St.
Joseph’s-Metuchen) was solid off the bench in a season-high
17 minutes of play. He dropped in seven points, grabbed three
boards, and came away with a pair of steals in an excellent
game-long defensive effort.
Elmira was led
by center Micah Owens who tallied 15 points and six
rebounds. Matt Keating followed up with 11 points
including three hits from beyond the arc, and Joe Prunier
added 10 points.
The outlook
seemed gloomy for the Warriors in the first five minutes of the
game as Elmira jumped out to a 9-3 early advantage. The Soaring
Eagles seemed to confuse Lycoming’s offense with a full-court
press that fell back into a strong half-court zone resulting in
three Warrior turnovers.
Lycoming would
eventually settle into its offense, much to the thanks of
Musser’s passing and game-pace management, but the defense
proved the real cause for the Warriors’ turnaround. Lycoming
forced Elmira into 12 first-half turnovers, feeding the Warriors
offense with extra opportunities. Junior Derrick Dull
(Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) drained a jumper from the high-post
with just under eight minutes left in the first stanza that gave
the Warriors its first lead of the match at 17-15. They would
not relinquish control from that point on.
The Warriors
forced Elmira into 30 miscues for the game directly resulting in
33 Lycoming points. The blue and gold also dominated the paint
with 40 points in the key compared to 10 from Elmira, and the
Warrior bench poured in 25 tallies against only a single score
from the Soaring Eagle substitutes.
Lycoming is
next in action on Monday, December 19, as the Warriors welcome
cross-town rival Penn College to Lamade Gymnasium. Game time is
scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
