WARRIOR
MEN’S BASKETBALL USES INSIDE GAME TO DEFEAT SHENANDOAH
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team hosted Shenandoah
University, Tuesday evening, in a non-conference contest. The
Warriors, who average nearly 25 three-point attempts per game,
flexed their muscle in the paint versus the Hornets and came away
with a 96-82 victory. Lycoming improved to 6-4 with the win, while
Shenandoah dropped to 6-2.
The Warriors set
the tone early by pounding the ball inside. The frontcourt trio of
L.J. Huggler (Jr./St. Marys, PA; St. Marys), Matt
Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville), and Jonathan
Pribble (Fr./Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain) accounted for 19
of Lycoming’s first 20 points and they raced out to 20-8 lead
seven minutes into the game. The Warriors continued working inside
to draw fouls and get high percentage shots as they built their
advantage to 18 before a late rally pulled the Hornets back within
12 at the half.
Huggler,
Stackhouse, and Pribble combined to shoot 12-of-13 from the floor
in the first half as Lycoming shot 82% as a team. They also
converted 10-of-14 free throws.
In the second
half, Shenandoah tried chipping away at Lycoming’s lead several
times but could never get closer than six points. The Warriors
answered every comeback and then secured the game from the
free-throw line, hitting 8-of-10 attempts in the final five
minutes and 21-of-29 in the half.
Huggler was
Lycoming’s leading scorer with a career-high 32 points. He was
10-of-11 from the field and 12-of-15 from the charity stripe.
Huggler also had a team-high six rebounds. Tommy Wesner
(Sr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) added 21 points, including a
trio a three-pointers. Pribble chipped in 20 points while grabbing
five rebounds. Shaun Morris (So./Camp Hill, PA; Trinity)
recorded a career-high with 11 assists in the game.
Michael Atkins
was the Hornets’ top performer with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Tyson Thompson added 16 markers and Todd Holt scored 10 points.
Lycoming
will travel to Susquehanna University on Saturday, January 11, for
their next contest. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
