WESNER NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR MEN’S BASKETBALL
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – Lycoming College senior guard Tommy Wesner (Dillsburg,
PA; Northern) has been named the MAC Freedom Conference Player
of the Week for men’s basketball. This is the second time this
season that Wesner has been honored as the player of the week and
the third consecutive week that a Warrior has been honored.
Wesner led
Lycoming to a pair of conference victories last week with solid
performances against Scranton and Delaware Valley. On Wednesday
versus the Royals, Wesner scored a game-high 32 points, while also
grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and dishing out five assists.
He also hit six three-pointers in the game giving him 236 triples
for his career, setting a new Warrior record. Wesner followed that
performance with a 23-point, four-rebound effort at Delaware
Valley on Saturday.
For the week, he
averaged 27.5 points per game while shooting 46% (19-of-41) from
the field, 44% (10-of-23) from three-point range, and 78% (7-of-9)
from the free throw line. He also compiled 12 rebounds and eight
assists.
Wesner
was the Freedom Conference Player of the Year in 2002 and is
currently the league’s second-leading scorer behind only
teammate Matt Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville).
As a team Lycoming is 12-7 overall this season. The Warriors, who
are defending conference champions, lead the Freedom Conference
with a record of 7-1 versus conference opponents.
