MEN’S BASKETBALL DETHRONES ROYALS
SCRANTON, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team traveled to the
University of Scranton, Wednesday evening, to open up their
Freedom Conference schedule against the defending conference
champions. The Warriors served notice that the title would be up
for grabs again this season, defeating the Royals 70-58 on their
home floor. Lycoming remains undefeated at 4-0 overall and 1-0 in
the conference with the victory. Scranton falls to 1-4 and 0-1.
The
contest was back-and-forth through the first 13 minutes of play
before the Warriors went on a 13-0 run over a three-minute span to
open up a 28-13 lead. The Royals closed the gap to single digits
just before halftime heading to the locker room trailing 26-35.
In
the second half, Scranton closed to within seven with 18 minutes
to play, but Lycoming regained control and stretched their lead to
as many as 17 with less than four minutes to play. The Warriors
cleared their bench in the closing minutes and settled on a
12-point victory.
Matt
Stackhouse (Sr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville)
was dominant in the paint for Lycoming with 29 points and 15
rebounds. Jonathan Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central
Mountain) added 18 points, including five three-pointers, and
eight rebounds. Curtis Mays (So./Philadelphia, Pa.; University
City) pulled down 10 boards while scoring seven points, while Shaun
Morris (Jr./Camp Hill, Pa.; Trinity) also scored seven points
and dished out a game-high seven assists.
The
Royals placed three players in double digits, led by freshman
Matthew Snyder with 13.
The
Warriors grabbed 48 rebounds in the game to Scranton’s 25.
Lycoming was also 12-of-16 from the free-throw line, while the
Royals were just 2-of-7.
The
Warriors will be at home for their next contest, hosting Drew
University, Saturday, December 6, at 7 p.m. Fans donating a winter
jacket will receive free admission to the game.
