MEN’S BASKETBALL DEFEATS
DIVISION II BLOOMSBURG
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team played host to
Division II Bloomsburg University, Tuesday evening. The Warriors
used strong defense and their best offensive performance of the
young season to dominate the Huskies en route to an 82-62 victory.
The win was Lycoming’s first versus Bloomsburg since 1953-54 and
their first versus an NCAA Division II scholarship program since
1985. The Warriors are now 3-0 on the season, while the Huskies
fall to 2-3.
Lycoming
began to take control of the contest late in the first half using
a 14-1 run over a four-minute span to build a 14-point lead.
Bloomsburg whittled the deficit back to single-digits with a
minute to play in the half, but a three-pointer by Jonathan
Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) gave the
Warriors a 46-36 lead at the intermission.
The
second half was all Lycoming, as the Warriors continued to pound
the ball inside at one end of the floor while playing aggressive
defense at the other end. Lycoming’s lead swelled to 24 points
with 11 minutes to play and the Warriors cruised the rest of the
way with all 15 players on the roster seeing action.
Pribble
led all scorers with 29 points, including 19 in the first half. He
also pulled down six rebounds. Matt Stackhouse
(Sr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) was dominant in the paint
scoring 19 points, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds and
blocking a pair of shots. L.J. Huggler (Sr./St. Marys, Pa.; St.
Marys) chipped in 10 points and six boards. Brad Musser
(So./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) led the squad with eight
assists, while adding seven points.
The
Huskies were led by Jason Benson (Jr./Pittsburgh, Pa.; Schenley)
with 25 points and Ryan Nenstiel (Fr./Nuremburg, Pa.;
Weatherly) with 14 points.
Lycoming
hits the road for their next contest, traveling to the University
of Scranton on Wednesday, December 3, for their first Freedom
Conference tilt of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
