LYCOMING MEN’S BASKETBALL WINS TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team won their own tip-off tournament for the fifth consecutive season, Saturday afternoon. The Warriors defeated Point Park University, 60-59, in the title game. Lycoming improves to 2-0 with the win. The Pioneers fall to 7-2 on the season.

The game flowed back-and-forth through the first half with each team holding leads as large as five points. A three-pointer by Point Park’s Reggie Gaddis (So./Madison, Wisc.) in the closing seconds of the half tied the score at 33-33 at the intermission.

In the second half, Lycoming tried to pull away, building a lead as large as seven with eight minutes to play. The Pioneers, however, would not go away and eventually tied the game at 57-57 with 1:43 to play. After trading lay-ups the two teams entered the final minute tied at 59-59. Curtis Mays (So./Philadelphia, Pa.; University City) attempted a three-pointer for the Warriors that hit the front part of the rim, but Jeremiah Edison (Jr./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) out-jumped his defender and grabbed the offensive rebound. He was then fouled on his put-back attempt. Edison made one-of-two free throws to give Lycoming a 60-59 lead with 24 seconds to play.

Point Park set up their offense and tried to get the ball into the paint but had the ball knocked out of bounds with only three seconds to play. On the inbounds play, Marek Kosovic (Sr./Prague, Czech Republic) came open down the lane, but was unable to convert the lay-up. Edison pulled the rebound down as time ran out to secure the Warriors’ victory.

Matt Stackhouse (Sr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) led Lycoming with 20 points and seven rebounds in the game. Jonathan Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) added 17 markers and nine rebounds. Brad Musser (So./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) led the squad with seven assists.

Brian Kennedy (Jr./Madison, Wisc.) led the Pioneers with a game-high 21 points. Kosovic added 20 points and eight boards.

Keystone College topped Arcadia University, 46-41, in the consolation game. Kevin Erb (So./Lancaster, Pa.; Manheim Township) led the Giants with 14 points and six rebounds.

Stackhouse was named the most valuable player for the tip-off tournament, scoring 37 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in two games. Pribble joined his teammate on the all-tournament team – tallying 32 points and 14 boards in the tournament. Point Park was represented on the all-tournament team by Kosovic (34 pts., 15 reb.); Keystone was represented by Erb (24 pts., 9 reb.); and Arcadia was represented by Magen McNeil (So./Philadelphia, Pa.; University City) (26 pts., 20 reb.).
