LYCOMING MEN’S
BASKETBALL FALLS TO ELMIRA
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team took a break from
conference action to host Elmira College, Monday evening. The
Warriors came back from a 10-point halftime deficit, but could not
hold on to a late lead as the Eagles stole a 73-69 victory.
Lycoming drops to 9-6 with the loss. Elmira improves to 10-4.
The Eagles got
out of the gate first, jumping out to a 12-4 advantage five
minutes into the contest. The Warriors fought back to take their
first lead of the game at 16-15 with 10:49 to play in the first
half. Elmira, however, used an 18-7 spurt in the last five minutes
to take a 43-33 lead into the locker room.
Lycoming began
chipping away at the deficit in the second half and eventually
regained the lead, 55-54, midway through the period. The Warriors
extended their lead to five with 3:56 to play, but the Eagles
refused to go away. A pair of three-pointers by Elmira tied the
game at 69-69 with 1:54 to play. Lycoming was unable to find the
bottom of the net in the final two minutes going 0-for-3 from the
field as the Eagles recorded a jump shot and two free throws to
steal the victory.
Matt
Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
led all scorers with 24 points to go with 14 rebounds. L.J.
Huggler (Jr./St. Marys, PA; St. Marys) added 17 points and Jonathan
Pribble (Fr./Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain) chipped in 12. Shaun
Morris (So./Camp Hill, PA; Trinity) led the team with six
assists, while scoring seven points.
The
Warriors will look to rebound on Wednesday, January 22, when they
travel to King’s College for a conference doubleheader. Tip-off
is scheduled for 8 p.m. following the women’s game.
