WARRIOR MEN’S
BASKETBALL NIPS FDU-FLORHAM
MADISON, NJ –
The Lycoming College men’s basketball team kept their Freedom
Conference record perfect with a 65-62 victory at FDU-Florham,
Saturday afternoon. The Warriors raced out to a large first half
lead but were forced to hold off the Devils in the final seconds
of the contest. Lycoming improves to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in the
conference. FDU drops to 6-8 and 0-4.
For the second
consecutive game, the Warriors came out of the gate fast, building
a double-digit lead midway through the opening period, only to
allow their opponent back into the game. Lycoming pounded the ball
inside to LJ. Huggler (Jr./St. Marys, PA; St. Marys) early
in the contest and looked dominate as they pulled out to a 27-9
lead. The Devils, however, chipped away at the Warriors lead and
trailed by just seven at halftime.
FDU kept the
pressure on in the second half, eventually taking their first lead
of the game at 39-38. The game was back and forth for the next
several minutes with neither team able to pull away. Freshman Jonathan
Pribble (Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain) iced the game for
Lycoming, hitting two free throws with three seconds on the clock
to give the Warriors a three-point lead. The Devils’ final shot
as the buzzer sounded was off the mark preserving the win for
Lycoming.
Huggler led all
players with 22 points in the game, including 12-of-13 shots from
the free-throw line. He also grabbed 10 rebounds. Pribble added 12
points and Matt Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
chipped in 11 points and 10 boards. Shaun Morris (So./Camp
Hill, PA; Trinity) and Tommy Wesner (Sr./Dillsburg, PA;
Northern) each tallied five assists in the game.
The Warriors
return home for their next game, playing host to Elmira College on
Monday, January 20. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
