LYCOMING MEN’S BASKETBALL HOLDS ON TO DEFEAT DREW

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team hosted Drew University, Wednesday evening, as Freedom Conference action resumed. The Warriors were dominant early and then hung on for a 75-67 victory. Lycoming improves to 8-5 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Rangers fall to 2-8 and 0-3.

After the teams traded baskets to open the game, a thundering dunk by Matt Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville) sparked the Warriors on a 16-0 run that opened up an 18-4 lead eight minutes into the contest. Lycoming stretched their lead to 21 before Drew came up with an answer. Trailing 34-13, the Rangers stepped up the defense holding Lycoming to just one point during the final six minutes of the half. Scoring 13 points of their own, Drew had closed to 35-26 at the intermission.

In the second half, the Warriors were able to maintain a double-digit lead for most of the period but could never really put the Rangers away. One final flurry midway through the half pulled Drew within six points, but a timely three-point play by Jonathan Pribble (Fr./Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain) erased that threat. Lycoming hit 10-of-14 free throws in the final minutes to seal the victory.

L.J. Huggler (Jr./St. Marys, PA; St. Marys) led all players with 25 points, while grabbing 12 rebounds. He tied a school record with 22 trips to the free-throw line, making 17 of his attempts. Stackhouse added 18 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass. Pribble chipped in 17 markers and Tommy Wesner (Sr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) tallied 12 points and nine rebounds. Shaun Morris (So./Camp Hill, PA; Trinity) led the squad with five assists.

The Rangers were led by Brad Greenman with 21 points and Dave Millstein with 18.

The Warriors travel to FDU-Florham on Saturday, January 18, for their next contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on WRAK-1400 AM radio.
