WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team played host to
Division II Mansfield University, Saturday evening. The Warriors
hung with the Mountaineers for the first 15 minutes of the
contest, but a 7-0 run late in the first period gave Mansfield a
10-point advantage they would not lose en route to an 81-64
victory. Lycoming falls to 4-1 with the loss, while the
Mountaineers improve to 6-1 on the year.
The
Warriors led for much of the first half, using the inside duo of Matt
Stackhouse (Sr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) and L.J.
Huggler (Sr./St. Marys, Pa.; St. Marys) to outmuscle
Mansfield. The Mountaineers, however, found their range from
outside and tied the game at 18-18 with 7:11 to play in the
period. Then with just over four minutes to play and a three-point
lead the visiting team went on a 7-0 spurt that increased their
lead to 30-20. By halftime Mansfield had stretched their advantage
to 39-26.
In
the second half, Lycoming closed to within six with just less than
13 minute to play on a three-pointer by Shaun Morris (Jr./Camp
Hill, Pa.; Trinity). The Warriors would get no closer,
however, as the Mountaineers pulled away down the stretch for the
81-64 victory.
Stackhouse
led all players with 25 points and 10 rebounds in the game. He
also blocked three shots. Huggler added 14 markers and Jonathan
Pribble (So./Woolrich, Pa.; Central Mountain) chipped in 11
points. Morris recorded a game-high nine assists in the contest.
Lycoming
will play again on Monday when they travel to Elmira College for a
non-conference game.
