MEN’S BASKETBALL UPSET AT DREW
MADISON,
NJ – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team traveled to
Drew University, Wednesday evening, for a Freedom Conference
contest. The Warriors overcame a seven-point deficit in the final
minutes to tie the game at 87-87 with 10 seconds to play, but a
pair of Ranger free throws gave Drew the 89-87 victory. Lycoming
falls to 14-8 overall and 9-2 in the conference with the loss. The
Rangers improve to 5-15 and 3-8.
The
Warriors went into halftime with a 46-43 lead but trailed most of
the second half after Drew opened the period with back-to-back
three-pointers. The Rangers extended their lead to 86-79 with just
2:32 to play, but aided by a pair of Ranger turnovers Lycoming was
able to tie the game at 87-87 with 10 seconds to play. The
Warriors, however, then made a critical error calling for a
timeout when they had none remaining. The result was a technical
foul and two free throws by Drew to win the game.
Tommy
Wesner (Sr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern)
led all players with 35 points in the game, including seven
three-pointers. He also led the team with five assists. L.J.
Huggler (Jr./St. Marys, PA; St. Marys) added 10 points and six
rebounds. Matt Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds while scoring nine points.
The
Rangers were led by Dave Millstein with 26 points and Brad
Greenman with 24 points. Millstein and Greenman were a combined
18-of-18 from the free-throw line in the game, including the game
winning free throws by Greenman. Mike Machin added 18 points and a
team-high nine rebounds.
Lycoming
will look to rebound on Saturday, February 15, in their final home
game of the regular season when they host King’s College.
Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
