WARRIOR
MEN’S BASKETBALL MOVES CLOSER TO PLAYOFF BERTH
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball moved closer to
securing a spot in the
Freedom Conference tournament with a 91-63 victory over Drew
University Wednesday evening. The win kept the Warriors just one
game behind first-place Scranton in the conference The team’s record
improves to 15-6 overall and 8-3 within the conference. The
Rangers drop to 10-12 and 4-7 with the loss.
Drew got off to
a hot start hitting three-pointers on each of their first four
successful field goals. They slowly built an 11-point lead midway
through the period. Lycoming, however, responded with a 25-6 run
in the final eight minutes of the half to take a 43-33 advantage
into the locker room.
In the second
half, the Warriors fought off comeback attempts by the Rangers to
maintain their double-digit lead. The lack of progress seemed to
frustrate the visitors giving Lycoming the opportunity to close
the game out by outscoring Drew 34-16 in the final 10 minutes.
Matt
Stackhouse (So./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
provided a dominating effort in the paint, scoring 26 points –
22 in the second half – and pulling down 14 rebounds. Chris
Napier (Sr./Port Jervis, NY; Minisink Valley) was equally
impressive with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Jason Black
(Sr./Duncannon, PA; Susquenita) added 19 markers and seven
rebounds. He also tallied four assists and three steals in the
contest.
For the game
the Warriors out-rebounded the Rangers 60-21 and shot 50% to
Drew’s 35%.
Lycoming
will travel to King’s College on Saturday for another key
Freedom Conference battle. A victory over the Monarchs would
secure at least one home playoff game for the Warriors. Tip-off
for Saturday’s contest is approximately 4 p.m. following the
women’s half of the doubleheader.
