LYCOMING’S
WESNER NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – Lycoming College junior Tommy Wesner (Dillsburg, PA;
Northern) has been named the Middle Atlantic Freedom
Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball. This is the
fourth time this season that he has won player of the week honors.
Last week,
Wesner led the Warriors to a pair of key conference victories on
the road. On Wednesday at Wilkes University, he poured in a
career-high 40 points, including eight three-point field goals, in
Lycoming’s 95-93, overtime win. The last of those three-pointers
came with 46 seconds to play in regulation and tied the game at
83-83. The victory also marked the first time the Warriors have
defeated Wilkes twice in one season since the 1979-80 campaign.
Wesner followed
that performance with team-highs of 19 points and seven rebounds
versus FDU-Madison on Saturday, leading Lycoming to a 76-72
victory. For the week, he averaged 29.5 points and 5.0 rebounds
per game, while shooting 47% from the field, 48% from beyond the
arc, and 79% from the free-throw line.
The
two conference wins put the Warriors (14-6, 7-3) in sole
possession of second place in the Freedom Conference, just one
game behind the University of Scranton with four games remaining.
Lycoming will host Drew University on Wednesday, Feb. 6; then
travel to King’s College on Saturday, Feb. 9; before returning
home for Scranton on Tuesday, Feb. 12, and DeSales on Saturday,
Feb. 16.
