MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS WILKES
WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Lycoming College men's basketball team traveled to Wilkes University, Wednesday evening, to open up Freedom Conference competition. The Warriors took a first half lead and held off the Colonels in the second half en route to an 82-80 victory. Lycoming improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the win. Wilkes suffers their first loss of the season to move to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the league.
With the support of a home crowd, the Colonels held the early momentum and jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Warriors, however, weathered the storm and stayed close until they put together a 12-2 run to take a 20-13 lead midway through the period. Lycoming would never trail again.
In the second half, the Warriors led by as many as 11, but Wilkes would not go away forcing Lycoming to the free-throw line in the closing minutes. Despite hitting just 5-of-10 free throws in the final 1:28, the Warriors were able to hang on for the two-point win.
Lycoming was led by junior Matt Stackhouse (Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
who scored 22 points and grabbed a career-high 21 rebounds, including eight off the offensive glass.
Jonathan Pribble (Fr./Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain) added 19 points - 14 in the second half; and
Tommy Wesner (Sr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) tallied 18 markers.
Shaun Morris (So./Camp Hill, PA; Trinity) came off the bench to lead the team with five assists, while scoring six points.
The Warriors are in action again on Saturday, December 7, when they host Delaware Valley College. Tip-off is at 8 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium.
