LYCOMING MEN’S
BASKETBALL WINS TIP-OFF TOURNEY CHAMPIONSHIP
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team picked up
right where they had left off Friday evening, en route to winning
the championship game of their own tip-off tournament, Saturday
afternoon. The Warriors led wire-to-wire for the second
consecutive game, defeating Lincoln University 92-65. Tommy
Wesner (Sr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) paced Lycoming with a
school-record 11 three pointers in the contest and a
tournament-high 34 points. The Warriors are now 2-0 to start the
year, while the Lions dropped to 1-1.
Wesner
got things started for the Warriors and gave the fans a glimpse of
what was to come when he hit a triple on his first attempt of the
game to put Lycoming ahead 3-0. The home team would pull out to a
14-4 advantage just three minutes into the game and would never
look back, building their lead to as high as 31 at one point on
the second half. All the while Wesner put on a shooting clinic,
hitting his first six three-point attempts and connecting from
behind the arc 10-of-13 times in the first half alone. Wesner also
led the squad with five assists in the game.
Jonathan
Pribble (Fr./Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain)
had another solid game for the Warriors with 19 points and seven
rebounds, including four three-pointers of his own. Matt
Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville) also scored 19
points for Lycoming.
Wesner
was named the tournament MVP for the second consecutive year.
Pribble was also named to the all-tournament team.
Shuaib
Abdur-Rahmen was the only player for Lincoln to break into double
digits with 18 points in the contest. He was the Lions’
representative on the all-tournament team.
In
the consolation game, Lancaster Bible defeated Valley Forge
Christian, 63-60. Lancaster Bible spread the scoring out with four
players in double figures. Matt Lynskey and Eric Lee each had 12
markers to lead the team. Josh Rhodes added 11 and Josh Pearson
chipped in 10. Sean Dougherty led the squad with 12 rebounds.
Valley
Forge was led by Jared Bornman with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Jeremy Ferguson scored 14 points, Ronshea Vargas added 13 points,
and Reginald Chapple dropped in 10 points.
Lynskey
and Bornman were both named to the all-tournament team.
The
Warriors are in action again on Tuesday, November 26, when they
travel to Division II Bloomsburg University.
