LATE COMEBACK
NOT ENOUGH FOR LYCOMING MEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM
SCRANTON, Pa. –
The Lycoming College men’s basketball team traveled to the
University of Scranton, Wednesday evening, for a showdown of the
top two teams in the MAC Freedom Conference. The Warriors held the
Royals scoreless for the final three minutes of the contest but
still fell short of eliminating a 10-point deficit giving Scranton
the 59-58 victory. Lycoming falls to 11-6 overall and 4-3 within
the conference. The Royals improve to 9-8 overall and 6-1 in the
Freedom.
Scranton
controlled the action early, scoring the first eight points of the
game and eventually pulling out to a 12-point advantage midway
through the first half. The Warriors, however, responded to
outscore the Royals 17-4 over the final nine minutes of the
period. The run gave Lycoming a 27-24 lead at halftime.
In the second
half, the Warriors extended their advantage to seven before
Scranton fought back to tie the game at 35 with 15 minutes to
play. The two teams continued to battle back-and-forth until the
Royals used a 9-2 run to move ahead 59-49 with just over three
minutes to play. Lycoming’s defense prevented Scranton from
scoring the remainder of the game, but the Warriors only managed
nine points of their own before time expired.
Matt
Stackhouse (So./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
led all players with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Curtis Mays
(Fr./Philadelphia, PA; University City) chipped in 11 points
off the bench. He also added five rebounds and five assists. Tommy
Wesner (Jr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) also tallied five boards
and five assists.
Lycoming
returns to action on Saturday when they play host to Delaware
Valley College. The game will kick off the second half of the
conference schedule. Tip-off will be at approximately 3 p.m.
following the women’s game at 1 p.m.
