BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH VICTORY
ADVANCES TO FINALS OF TIP-OFF
TOURNEY
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team opened the
2002-2003 campaign in impressive fashion, Friday evening,
defeating Valley Forge Christian College 105-73. The Warriors
never trailed in the contest and had five different players score
in double figures. The Patriots fall to 5-3 with the loss, while
Lycoming opens up at 1-0.
The Warriors set
the tone early racing out to a 17-1 lead in the first four minutes
of play. Their advantage would never be smaller than 13 points the
remainder of the game.
Freshman Jonathan
Pribble (Woolrich, PA; Central Mountain) had an impressive
collegiate debut leading Lycoming with 26 points. Pribble hit
10-of-13 shots, including a pair of three-pointers and also pulled
down five rebounds. Tommy Wesner (Sr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern)
added 21 points to the cause, including five triples. He also led
the team with seven assists.
The inside tandem
of LJ Huggler (Jr./St. Marys, PA; St. Marys) and Matt
Stackhouse (Jr./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville) scored 20 and 17
points, respectively. Each also grabbed five rebounds in the
contest. Shaun Morris (So./Camp Hill, PA; Trinity) was the
fifth Warrior to reach double digits with 12 points in the game.
He also had six assists.
Jared Bornman was
the leading scorer for Valley Forge with 26 points to go with nine
rebounds. Reginald Chapple added 22 points for the Patriots.
In the second
game of the evening, Lincoln University defeated Lancaster Bible
College 78-62. Lincoln led by as many as 20 points in the first
half, but Lancaster Bible came storming back to take their first
lead of the game with 8:40 remaining. Lincoln, however, weathered
the storm and pulled away at the end for the 16-point victory.
Shuaib
Abdur-Rahman led Lincoln with 22 points in the game. Linwood
Gilmore added 19 points, while also pulling down a game-high 19
rebounds. Mike Kearse chipped in 11 markers.
Lancaster Bible
was led by Matt Lynskey with 23 points, including four
three-pointers. Eric Lee added 12 points and Chad Kuhne scored 10.
Lycoming
will play Lincoln at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in the championship
game of the tournament. Valley Forge and Lancaster Bible will
square off at 2 p.m. in the consolation game.
