LYCOMING’S
WESNER NAMED MAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – Lycoming College junior Tommy Wesner (Dillsburg, PA;
Northern) has been named the Middle Atlantic Freedom
Conference Player of the Week for men’s basketball. Wesner, a
candidate for player of the year in the conference, has been named
player of the week five times this season.
Last week,
Wesner led the Warriors in two come-from-behind victories over
conference opponents. On Tuesday, he scored 23 points – all in
the second half – to help Lycoming overcome a 20-point deficit
en route to a 77-74 win over then first-place Scranton. Eighteen
of his points came on six three-pointers and he also led the team
with nine rebounds and four assists. Wesner again led the team in
scoring on Saturday when he tossed in 21 points, including five
triples against DeSales University. The Warriors overcame a
10-point second-half deficit to defeat the Bulldogs 73-59.
The two wins
gave Lycoming a share of the regular-season title along with
King’s College with a league record of 10-4. The Warriors will
be the second seed in the conference tournament and will host
Scranton on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Lamade Gymnasium.
For
the season, Wesner leads both the Warriors and the conference in
scoring with a 17.3 points-per-game average. He is also averaging
4.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
