WARRIOR MEN’S BASKETBALL TAMES DEVILS

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College men’s basketball team picked up their third conference win of the season, Monday evening, with an 80-71 victory over visiting FDU-Madison. The Warriors overcame an 11-point halftime deficit to claim the Freedom Conference contest. Lycoming is now 10-4 overall and 3-1 versus conference opponents. The Devils fall to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

The Warriors jumped out to the first substantial lead midway through the first half after three consecutive lay-ups put the home team ahead by six. FDU, however, took control late in the half when Lycoming’s shooting went cold. A nine-point run to end the period put the Devils up 11 at the intermission.

FDU stretched their lead to 14 with 13 minutes to play before the Warriors began chipping away. Three-pointers by Curtis Mays (Fr./Philadelphia, PA; University City) and Tommy Wesner (Jr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) cut the deficit to five with 10 minutes to play. Another triple by Wesner and three lay-ups by Matt Stackhouse (So./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville) gave Lycoming a four-point lead – a lead they would never lose.

Wesner made 14-of-15 free throws en route to a game-high 25 points. Stackhouse and Nick Tagliaferri (Sr./Linden, PA; Jersey Shore) each scored 12 points. Stackhouse also grabbed eight rebounds while Tagliaferri pulled down six boards. LJ Huggler (So./St. Mary’s, PA; St. Mary’s) and Chris Napier (Sr./Port Jervis, NY; Minisink Valley) each tallied 10 markers to give the Warriors five players in double figures.

Lycoming is home again on Wednesday when they host King’s College in a doubleheader with the women’s teams. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. following the women’s game at 6 p.m.
