MEN’S BASKETBALL SUFFERS FIRST LOSS
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team suffered their
first loss of the season, Monday night, falling 62-56 to visiting
Alvernia College. The Warriors fall to 3-1 overall with the
non-conference loss. The Crusaders improved to 3-1 with the win.
Lycoming built a
10-point advantage in the first half by playing tough defense. The
Warriors blocked seven shots in the opening period and held their
opponents to 20% shooting from the field.
The tables turned
in the second half, however, as Alvernia turned up the defense to
hold Lycoming to just 24 points on 28% shooting. At the same time,
the Crusaders found their stroke and poured in 40 points to
complete the come-from-behind victory. Alvernia forced 21
turnovers in the game and was 7-for-11 from the free-throw line in
the final two minutes.
Chris Napier
(Sr./Port Jervis, NY; Minisink Valley)
led the Warriors in scoring with 15 points – all coming in the
second half of play. He also led the squad with four assists. Thomas
Wesner (Jr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern) added 10 points and three
assists. Matt Stackhouse (So./Hughesville, PA; Hughesville)
had a huge night on the glass, pulling down 17 rebounds. He also
blocked four shots.
Lycoming
will be at home again on Wednesday when they host nearby rival
