WARRIOR MEN’S
BASKETBALL OPENS SEASON WITH VICTORY
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College men’s basketball team opened the
2001-2002 campaign with a 78-55 victory over Gallaudet University
in opening round action of the Lycoming Tip Off Tourney. The
Warriors advance to the tournament’s championship game Saturday
at 4 p.m. to play Chowan College.
The Bison played
spirited defense in the first half to keep the game tight as
Lycoming carried a 33-32 lead into the half. The Warriors pulled
away in the second half, however, by shooting 50% from the field
while holding their opponents to just 23 points.
Thomas Wesner
(Jr./Dillsburg, PA; Northern)
led the Warriors with 21 points, including five three-point field
goals. He also added five steals and three assists. Chris
Napier (Sr./Port Jervis, NY; Minisink Valley) added 15 points
and six rebounds, and Matt Stackhouse (So./Hughesville, PA;
Hughesville) chipped in 12 points and seven boards. Nick
Tagliaferri (Sr./Linden, PA; Jersey Shore) led the team with
nine rebounds.
In
the opening game, Chowan defeated Elmira College 99-95 in double
overtime. Dejuan Green led Chowan with 33 points and eight
rebounds. Bryan Christian added 19 points and 11 boards. Rob
Wordlaw was Elmira’s leading scorer with 29 points. He also
grabbed 11 rebounds. Corrin Jackson added 24 points and 12 caroms.
