WARRIORS IMPROVE TO 3-0 ON THE GRIDIRON
WITH WIN OVER KING’S

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Chris Dauber (Sr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore) caught a 24-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to break a 14-14 tie and lead Lycoming College to a 20-14 win over visiting King’s College, Saturday afternoon. The Warriors improve to 3-0 on the season and 3-0 within the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Monarchs fall to 2-2 overall and 2-1 within the MAC.

Lycoming got on the board first, scoring in the second quarter when Joe Feerrar (Sr./Jersey Shore, PA; Jersey Shore) found Ray Withelder (So./Aston, PA; Sun Valley) in the back of the endzone for a 17-yard touchdown pass. Dave Christensen (Jr./Fairless Hills, PA; Pennsbury) made the score 7-0 with the extra point.

King’s struck back later in the period to pull within 7-6 before the half. Tom Pierantozzi scampered in from 13 yards out to cap a nine-play 76-yard drive. The point-after-try was no good.

In the third quarter the Warriors extended their lead to eight as Tim Deasey (Sr./Norwood, PA; Interboro) caught a 12-yard pass from Feerrar. Christensen connected for the point-after, making the score 14-6 with just over a quarter to play.

The Monarch’s responded immediately, taking the ensuing kickoff and marching 82 yards on 10 plays to tie the game up. Silas Moore capped the drive with a four-yard touchdown run with 11:05 to play in the game. A two-point conversion pass from Pierantozzi to Merritt Carr knotted the game at 14.

Lycoming followed with an impressive drive of their own. Feerrar led his team from their own 27 yard-line to the game-winning touchdown, nine plays later. The senior quarterback completed 3-of-6 passes on the drive including strikes of 21 yards and 24 yards to Tom Zulkowski (Sr./Frackville, PA; Cardinal Brennan) and Dauber, respectively. Dauber made a diving catch for the go-ahead score. The extra point was blocked, leaving the Warriors with a six-point lead.

King’s had two chances to tie the game, but both drives ended with interceptions, securing Lycoming’s 20-14 victory.

Feerrar threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns, completing 17-of-36 passes. Dauber caught five of those passes for 89 yards and one touchdown. Kyle Bingaman (Sr./Lykens, PA; Upper Dauphin Area) also made five catches for a total of 70 yards. Deasey led the team in rushing with 84 yards on 23 carries. He also scored a touchdown on a 12-yard reception.

Defensively, Tim Schmidt (So./Philadelphia, PA; Roman Catholic) led all players with 11 tackles. He also forced a fumble and deflected a pass. Ryan Rupprecht (Sr./Southampton, PA; Archbishop Wood) chipped in nine stops and three pass break-ups. The Warriors intercepted four passed in the game; Matt Henrich (Jr./Huntingdon, PA; Huntingdon) recorded a pair, and Brian Bond (Jr./Philadelphia, PA; Father Judge) and Joe Dumas (Fr./Philadelphia, PA; Archbishop Ryan) each had one.

For the Monarch’s Chris Shivery led the running attack with 112 yards on 28 carries. Pierantozzi added 65 yards rushing and one touchdown. He also passed for 89 yards on 6-of-19 passing. Jim Pio was his leading receiver with two catches for 42 yards.

Chris Keene was King’s leading tackler with nine stops on the afternoon, including one sack. Sean Frasier added eight tackles and another sack. Derek Zambino had a solid day in the secondary, breaking up six passes and making six tackles.

The Monarchs out-rushed Lycoming in the game 226 yards to 117 yards. The Warriors, however, threw for 270 yards to King’s 89. Both teams were penalized a total of 22 times for 209 yards.

Lycoming will be at home again next week, hosting Widener University at 1 p.m. The Pioneers entered this week’s action ranked fifth in the country; the Warriors were ranked 17th.
