CARDILLO AND
ROANTREE NAMED TO
ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT II TEAM
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– Lycoming College student-athletes Chris Roantree
(Jr./Philadelphia, PA; Father Judge) and Andy Cardillo
(Sr./Victor, NY; Victor Central) have been named to the 2001
Verizon Academic All-District II Football Team as selected by
members of CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of
America).
Roantree, a
defensive lineman for the Warriors, started all nine games this
past season and was fifth on the team with 32 tackles. He also
recorded nine tackles behind the line of scrimmage including three
sacks. Roantree was the leader of a defensive front that allowed
just 105.9 yards rushing per game.
Off the field,
Roantree has excelled as well. An accounting major, he was named
the MAC All-Academic team last season and will qualify for the
honor again this season. He has been a member of the Dean’s List
five times, is a member of the Accounting Society, and
participated in the IMS Scholars Program. Roantree is also
involved with the community, having worked with underprivileged
kids at Children’s Discovery Workshop and helped with a
basketball program for mentally handicapped children.
Cardillo, an
offensive lineman for Lycoming, played in all nine games in 2001
and earned starts the final two weeks of the season. At 6’1”,
340 pounds, he played a key role on short-yardage and goal line
situations for the Warriors. Along with his teammates on the
offensive line, Cardillo led Lycoming to 1,606 rushing yards on
405 carries for an average of four yards per run. The team also
scored 21 rushing touchdowns.
Away from
football, Cardillo is active as a member of Tri Beta, the biology
national honor society, and Phi Alpha Theta, the history national
honor society. He will graduate from Lycoming with a degree in
biology.
The Verizon
Academic All-District II College Division Football Team features
student-athlete football players from NCAA non-Division I colleges
and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. By being named to the
All-District team, Roantree and Cardillo are now qualified for the
Verizon Academic All-America national ballot. The Verizon Academic
All-America College Division Football Team will be announced Dec.
10, 2001.
