DIVISION III FOOTBALL PLAYOFF FIELD;
LYCOMING LEFT OUT
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The NCAA released the 28-team field for the 2001 Division III
Football Playoffs earlier this afternoon. Despite a record of 8-1,
Lycoming was not one of the teams chosen.
The
Warriors only loss came in week four versus Widener University - a
semifinalist in last season's NCAA Championships and a number two
seed this season in the South Region. The Pioneers
went on to finish the season undefeated and claim the Middle
Atlantic Conference Championship and the automatic birth in the
playoffs that comes with the conference title. That moved Lycoming
into Pool C of the selection process, competing with a number of
teams from across the country for one of three at-large bids. For

from Belton, Texas. Bethel and Montclair St. each had 9-1 records
during the regular season, and UMHB went 8-1 during the 2001
campaign. Each team's only loss came against an their conference
champion who went on the receive an automatic bid.
The
Warriors finish their season with a record of 8-1 - their 27th
