LYCOMING’S
DEASEY NAMED TO AFCA’S 2001 AZTEC BOWL SQUAD
WACO, TEXAS –
Lycoming College senior running back Tim Deasey (Norwood, PA;
Interboro) has been selected to play for the American Football
Coaches Association’s Division III all-star team that will
represent the United States against the Mexican National Team in
the 2001 Aztec Bowl on December 15 in Saltillo, Mexico.
Deasey became
the Warriors’ most prolific running back of all-time, breaking
13 school records during his senior campaign. The records began
falling in Lycoming’s first game when Deasey ran for 253 yards
to set a new single-game rushing mark. He went on to add the
career records for rushing yards (2,868) and rushing touchdowns
(29), the season standard for rushing yards (1,247), and the
single-game mark for rushing touchdowns (5), along with eight
other records.
In 2001,
Deasey carried the ball 234 times for a total of 1,247 yards and
13 touchdowns. He also caught 10 passes for 96 yards and 1
touchdown. Deasey led the Middle Atlantic Conference in rushing
with a 138.6 yards-per-game average and was second in both
all-purpose yards and scoring.
The conference
honored Deasey by naming him a 1st-team all-star for
the second consecutive season. During the 11-week regular-season,
he was named offensive player of the week twice (Sept. 15 and Nov.
10) and was placed on the honor roll twice (Sept. 8, Oct. 20).
Deasey is one
of 42 NCAA Division III seniors from around the country who will
make up this year’s team. Former Central (Iowa) College Head
Coach Ron Schipper will coach the team for the fifth consecutive
year. Lycoming’s head athletic trainer Frank Neu will
serve as one of the trainers for the Aztec Bowl for the fourth
time in the past five years.
Deasey
is the fourth player from Lycoming to play in the Aztec Bowl since
1997. Sean Graf (2000), Cameron Coleman (1999), and Jason
Marraccini (1998) were the other Warriors to be members of the
team.
