Smith, VanNort Named MAC Players of the Week

Williamsport, Pa. – The Middle Atlantic Conference gave extra recognition to the Quarterback Glenn SmithWarriors for their victory over nationally ranked Ithaca College on Saturday in naming quarterback Glenn Smith (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and defensive tackle Dave VanNort (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) as the offensive and defensive Players of the Week.

Smith put together his second consecutive impressive outing in Lycoming’s 33-30 overtime victory over Ithaca.  The junior signal caller was a dual threat as he torched the Bombers both through the air and on ground on the way to victory.  He had a hand in four of Lycoming’s five touchdowns, and completed passes to seven different Warrior receivers.  He completed 24 of 32 passes for 251 yards and a pair of touchdown passes.

Smith also ran for two scores including the game-winner on the Warriors’ first overtime possession.  After the defense held Ithaca to a field goal on its extra-time possession, Smith scampered nine yards for the clinching score on a well-crafted fake inside handoff Defensive tackle Dave VanNortto the running back from a shotgun formation.

VanNort had a monstrous game for Lycoming in the trenches Ithaca’s offensive line.  From his defensive tackle position, VanNort registered a game-high 14 total tackles (eight solo) and a pair of quarterback sack assists.  He finished with three tackles for a loss.

His most impressive and important play of the game happened with less than 4:30 left in regulation play.  With Ithaca driving down the field, VanNort stripped running back James Davis of the ball and Lycoming recovered near midfield to start the drive that would result in the game-tying score and force overtime to lead to eventual victory for the Warriors.
