WARRIOR
FOOTBALL FAVORED TO REGAIN MAC TITLE
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– Lycoming College has been chosen as the preseason favorite to
capture the Middle Atlantic Conference football title in a poll of
the head coaches in the conference.
The Warriors,
who finished the 2002 season with a 6-3 record, received four
first-place votes and finished with 112 points. Lycoming was not
selected to finish lower than third in any of the ballots.
Lycoming will
be seeking its 29th consecutive winning season entering
the 2003 campaign. The Warriors return four of five starters on
the offensive line and eight offensive starters overall. That
group will be led by junior quarterback Phil Mann (Mill Hall,
PA; Central Mountain) who missed two games last season due to
a shoulder injury, but the Warriors were 6-1 in the games that
Mann started. On defense, Lycoming will be led by sophomore
linebacker Luke Sterling (Lehighton, PA; Lehighton) who
topped the team in tackles last season.
