WARRIOR FOOTBALL ANNOUNCES 2003 RECRUITING CLASS

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College football program recently completed its recruiting efforts for the 2003 season and is proud to announce that a class of 35 freshmen will be joining the team this fall.

Three local student-athletes are included in the group of newcomers. Chris Knipe, of Cogan Station and a graduate of Williamsport High School, will compete for playing time on the Warriors’ offensive line. Seth Rockwell, of Trout Run and a graduate of Wellsboro High School, will join Lycoming’s receiving corps. And Glenn Smith, of Watsontown and a graduate of Warrior Run High School, will compete to earn the role of back-up quarterback.

“We are very happy with our recruiting class for the upcoming season,” said Lycoming head coach Frank Girardi. “We feel that we addressed some needs by adding depth to a few key positions – namely on the defensive line and in the secondary. We also got a number of tremendous athletes at the skill positions who will have the opportunity to help us out immediately in a variety of ways. Overall, the coaching staff is excited about the incoming class and is eager to see how they perform and progress once camp starts.” 

The Warriors have one addition to the coaching staff for the 2003 season. Jesse Smith will join Lycoming’s staff as the defensive line coach. Smith previously coached at South Williamsport. Dr. David Bower has also been promoted to offensive coordinator following the departure of Frank Girardi, Jr. to become the head coach at Jersey Shore High School. Bower will also continue to work with the quarterbacks and receivers.
