LYCOMING
FOOTBALL RANKED 13TH IN THE NATION IN STREET & SMITH'S
PRESEASON POLL
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College football program finds itself in
familiar territory as the 2002 football season approaches. The
Warriors have been ranked 13th in the nation in Street &
Smith's College Football 2002 preseason Division III Top-25.
Lycoming
completed the 2001 season with a record of 8-1 and was ranked 10th
in the nation in the final American Football Coaches
Association poll. The Warriors return 12 starters from that
team, including seven defenders from a unit that was tops in the
Middle Atlantic Conference in both points and yards allowed. The
key to the 2002 season will be the development of an offense that
will feature new starters at quarterback, tailback, and all three
receiver positions.
Winning the
conference championship and returning to the NCAA playoffs will
not be an easy task for Lycoming as the Middle Atlantic Conference
is among the strongest in the nation. Along with the Warriors at
number 13, defending champion Widener University was picked 5th
and King's College was picked 21st in the Street & Smith's
poll. Wilkes University also checks in on a "best of the
rest" list of 10 schools in addition to the top-25.
Lycoming kicks
off its season on Saturday, September 7, when they travel to
Delaware Valley College. The Warriors first home game will be on
Saturday, September 21, when they host rival Susquehanna
University at 1:30 p.m.
