FOOTBALL DOMINATES SUSQUEHANNA
TO MOVE TO

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming
College football team proved why they are ranked as the ninth best
team in country dominating Susquehanna University, Saturday
afternoon, en route to a 50-3 victory. The Warriors racked up 471
yards of total offense, including 336 yards rushing, while holding
the Crusaders to just a field goal on 192 yards of total offense.
Lycoming improves to 3-0 on the season. Susquehanna falls to 0-2.
Lycoming was led by the duo of
Jon Neve (Sr./Norristown, PA;
Germantown Academy)
and Jared Morris (Sr./Canton, PA;
Canton)
at running back. For the third consecutive week both backs
surpassed the 100-yard mark – Neve carrying the ball 16 times for
117 yards and three touchdowns, Morris rushing 12 times for 110
yards and two scores. Quarterback Phil Mann (So./Mill Hall, PA;
Central Mountain)
completed 8-of-10 passes for 96 yards and a touchdown. Ray
Withelder (Jr./Aston, PA;
Sun Valley)
caught two passes for 44 yards and Ricky Lannetti
(Jr./Philadelphia, PA; Father Judge) caught two passes for 14
yards and a touchdown.
Susquehanna was led offensively by
Tim Ronchi (Sr./Factoryville, PA; Lackawanna Trail) who had
four receptions for 60 yards. Mike Bowman (Sr./Northumberland,
PA; Shikellamy) completed 8-of-23 passes for 106 yards and
threw two interceptions. Jason Eck (So./Williamsport, PA;
Loyalsock) and Jordan Rawlins (So./Bloomsburg, PA;
Bloomsburg) each carried the ball nine times, Eck for 20 yards
and Rawlins for 18.
Defensively, Luke Sterling
(Fr./Lehighton, PA; Lehighton) led the Warriors with eight
tackles on the afternoon. Brian Bond (Sr./Philadelphia, PA;
Father Judge) and Brian Kaspick (So./Clearfield, PA;
Clearfield)
each intercepted a pass for Lycoming.
The Crusaders’ Larry Cannon
(So./Hatfield, PA; North Penn) led all defenders with 10
tackles. Nick Chesney (Sr./Kulpmont, PA;
Mount Carmel)
added nine stops.
The Warriors got on the board first
with a touchdown midway through the opening quarter. Neve capped a
seven-play, 60-yard drive with a five-yard run to paydirt. Neve
extended Lycoming’s advantage to 14-0 later in the quarter when he
broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run.
Susquehanna got on the board in the
second quarter on a 29-yard field goal by Andy Nadler
(Sr./Westport, CT; Staples). The three-point play capped a
15-play, 65-yard drive by the Crusaders. The Warriors answered
with two more touchdowns prior to halftime. Neve recorded his
third score of the afternoon finding the endzone from seven yards
out. Morris tallied his first score of the afternoon on a one-yard
run just before the end of the half.
Lycoming ended all hopes of a
second-half comeback forcing and recovering a fumble on the
kickoff to start the half. The Warriors used the turnover to take
a commanding 35-3 lead, scoring on just two plays. Morris did all
the work on the drive carrying the ball on both plays – the second
a 33-yard touchdown sprint. Lannetti and Randy Lattis
(Jr./Ashland, PA;
North Schuylkill) each
added touchdown receptions for Lycoming’s final two scores to set
the final at 50-3.
Notes: … the 50-3 score was the largest margin
of victory in the history of the rivalry … Lycoming retains the
Amos Alonzo Stagg Old hat Trophy for the second consecutive year.
