ROANTREE NAMED
TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT II TEAM
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– Lycoming College senior Chris Roantree (Philadelphia, PA;
Father Judge) has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic
All-District II Football Team as selected by members of CoSIDA
(College Sports Information Directors of America). This is the
second consecutive year that Roantree has been named to the team.
Roantree, a
defensive lineman, started all nine games for the Warriors this
season. He was the team’s second leading tackler with 48 stops,
including a team-high five sacks and 16 tackles-for-a-loss. He
also batted down three passes, forced a fumble, and recovered a
fumble. Roantree was a key reason that Lycoming’s defense
limited opponents to just 105.9 yards rushing per game.
Off the field,
Roantree has excelled as well. An accounting major, Roantree has
been named to the MAC All-Academic team three times and the
Dean’s List seven times. He is also a member of the Accounting
Society and participated in the IMS Scholars Program. Roantree is
also involved in the community, having worked with underprivileged
kids at the Children’s Discovery Workshop and helped with a
basketball program for mentally handicapped children.
The Verizon
Academic All-District II College Division Football team features
student-athlete football players from NCAA non-Division I colleges
and universities in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland,
New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. By being named to the
All-District team, Roantree is now qualified for the Verizon
Academic All-America national ballot. The Verizon Academic
All-America College Division Football Team will be announced on
Monday, December 2.
