ATHLETIC TRAINING / SPORTS MEDICINE EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN
Person Stadium / Lamade Gymnasium
Preamble: It is the responsibility and duty of all
individuals involved in the Lycoming College Athletic Department
and/or the Athletic Training / Sports Medicine Department to be able
to institute emergency procedures in the instance when a person is
injured at or in the vicinity of Person Stadium and/or Lamade
Gymnasium at Lycoming College. When a Lycoming College varsity
athletic team has a scheduled (supervised by the respective varsity
coach) practice or competition, in this facility, the
athletic/athletic training staff should see that appropriate
emergency equipment will be made readily available and accessible
and that emergency procedures be implemented and practiced to
provide the best possible care for the injured individual.

D. Field Preparation: The field shall be
equipped with the following emergency
equipment for each scheduled varsity competition and practice.
1. Athletic Training Kit
2. Latex Gloves
3. Bio-Hazard Disposal
4. Splints
5. Backboards
- Emergency Procedures
- Home Football Contest
- a. Ambulance service at football contests at Person Stadium
is required. The team physician, athletic trainer, or athletic
staff member shall signal to the sideline for the ambulance.
The ambulance shall then proceed to the field.
- b. If the ambulance has not been dispatched, follow the
procedures as described in II.B.
- The ambulance service staff in conjunction with the
athletic training staff shall prepare the injured person for
transport to the predetermined emergency facility.
(Williamsport Hospital and Medical Center Emergency
Department).
- A member of the athletic staff or athletic training staff
(if available), shall accompany the injured person to the
emergency facility. The injured athlete's emergency
information form should accompany the athlete. (Emergency
Information Form located in binders in Person Stadium
training room and Lamade Gym training room).
B. Non-Football Contest/Practice
1. A member of the athletic staff or the athletic training
staff shall call 911
off-campus (Person Stadium), or 9-911
on campus (Lamade Gym), for
direct connection to local EMS,
to initiate Emergency Action Procedures
from the field
cellular phone or the nearest available phone. The
individual
shall inform the Emergency Medical System
Operator of the following:
- Type of Emergency
- Type of Suspected Injury
- Present condition of the Athlete
- Current assistance being given (ie. CPR, Immobilization)
- Location from which you are making the call
- Exact location of the Emergency (ie. name, street,
entrance)
(Do not end the conversation [hang-up] until
the operator has instructed you to do so)
2. A member of the athletic staff or the athletic training
staff shall call
Lycoming College Campus Safety &
Security Office 321-(4911), and
request that an officer be
dispatched to the site of the emergency (if one
is not
present).
3. The member of the athletic staff or the athletic training
staff shall inform
the on-site personnel that an ambulance
has been dispatched.
4. Follow the procedures as described in II.A.2. under
"Home Football
Contests."
- Post Emergency
- Once the appropriate emergency management has taken place the
athletic staff or the athletic training staff will assist with
the return of the athlete to campus and any appropriate referral
procedures.
