Each spring the Office of Residential Life conducts a Housing Lottery to allow currently enrolled, returning students to select housing for the upcoming academic year. Current students (both residents and commuters) wishing to obtain campus housing must follow all of the steps listed in the section below entitled "Important Steps for Lottery Participants" in order to be eligible to select housing in the lottery process.
- Room selection is determined by lottery numbers which are assigned randomly by a computer program. Numbers are grouped according to credit hours earned (as recorded by the Registrar's Office) at the end of the previous fall semester (fall 2017).
- Students with the lowest lottery number have priority for placement and have the option to "pull" in other roommates (see exceptions below*).
- All students wishing to select a room should be present during the appropriate lottery and must have the necessary number of roommate(s) to fill the space. If a student cannot be present, the roommate(s) must bring a completed and signed Proxy Form (see Quick Links below) for the absent student(s).
- Students who do not participate in the lottery but still want housing should contact the Residential Life Office to be added to a waiting list for placement after the lottery is completed.
The number of students sometimes exceeds the number of rooms available during the lottery. Spaces become available over the summer. All students who did not get a room during the lottery will receive assignments before returning to campus in August; room assignment information will be posted on WebAdvisor after July 14.

Important Steps For Lottery Participants
1. Pay $100 enrollment deposit.
Make certain your enrollment deposit of $100 is paid to the Business Office by Wednesday, February 28, 2018.
- Payment of this deposit confirms a student's intention to return for the following academic year.
- All students (both commuter and resident) must pay this deposit as it allows students to register for courses as well as participate in the housing lottery.
- All students who pay the deposit and complete Step 2. by the deadline (both commuter and resident) will be assigned a lottery number and will be eligible to participate in the housing lottery.
Note: If you do not pay your enrollment deposit and clear your student account by the deadlines, you will not be guaranteed a computer generated lottery number. If you pay your enrollment deposit and clear your student account after lottery numbers are run and posted, regardless of the number of credits completed, your number will be manually assigned at the end of the computer generated list in the order which we receive notification from the Business Office that the deposit has been paid. Failure to pay the enrollment deposit prohibits participation in the lottery.
2. Clear your student account.
Confirm with the Business Office that your student account is up to date and clear of all holds by Monday, March 19, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. (noon).
Note: Even if you complete Step 1. but do not clear your student account by the deadline, you will not be guaranteed a computer generated lottery number. If you clear your student account after lottery numbers are run and posted, regardless of the number of credits completed, your number will be manually assigned at the end of the computer generated list in the order which we receive notification from the Business Office that the deposit has been paid. Failure to clear student account prohibits participation in the lottery.
3. Complete the Housing Agreement online through WebAdvisor.
Once your student account is cleared you will be able to log into WebAdvisor and complete your housing agreement and select your meal plan for next year. If you are unable to start the agreement, you should contact the Business Office to confirm that there are no issues with your account. The agreement must be completed and electronically signed a minimum of 24 hours before the lottery session you wish to attend. Failure to complete the Housing Agreement prior to your lottery session prohibits participation in the lottery.
4. Decide what type of housing you would like.
Choose the location where you wish to live and find the appropriate number of roommates for the space.
Carefully read through all of the "Housing Options" information listed below. For room style and locations, floor plans of all residence halls, rooms, apartments and The Commons can be viewed by current students by using log-in information provided by the Office of Residential Life at the start of the lottery process. For up to date availability of all spaces see "2018 Available Spaces"(see Quick Links above). As rooms are taken the "Available Spaces" list will be updated.
With the exception of singles, individuals must have the appropriate number of roommates to fill the space in attendance (or by proxy) at a lottery session in order to participate. All rooms must be filled to capacity at the time of the lottery.
If a student cannot find a roommate and would like to receive information on other students looking for a roommate, please complete the "Looking for a Roommate" registration form in Web Advisor by selecting "Looking for a Roommate" from the "Housing Lottery" section of the Residential Life menu. Failure to have the appropriate number of roommates in attendance at a lottery session (in person or by proxy) prohibits participation in the lottery.
5. Complete any necessary applications.
Descriptions of the various room options are below, along with any instructions/deadline information for any applications that might be required. Applications are either included in the section describing the housing (eg. AFFINITY Housing) or can be found on-line in Web Advisor (eg. SINGLE ROOM, APARTMENT/COMMONS) under the Residential Life menu by selecting "Housing Lottery".
6. Attend the appropriate room selection session.
Consult the 2018 Lottery Dates and Times Schedule.
- Attend the appropriate session based on lottery #.
- Attend with all roommates and/or Proxy forms for those who are unable to attend.
- Bring your College ID to the lottery session.
IMPORTANT: If you do not complete ALL of the above steps you will not be allowed to participate in the lottery. For specific requirements related to housing options, requirements and deadlines, please read all information below.
COLLEGE APARTMENTS/THE COMMONS
All rising senior and junior students are welcome and encouraged to submit an applications. Approval is based on the following 3 criteria:
- 50+ credits at the end of fall 2017.
- 2.25 GPA.
- At the time of application, you must not be on disciplinary probation, deferred suspension or delinquent on any conduct sanctions.
Applicants who do not meet one or more of the criteria above will be initially denied but are encouraged to file an appeal which will be reviewed by a committee. The appeal process is outlined on the application page (see link below).
*Note: Students may only "pull" roommates into a unit who have also applied and been approved to live in the Apartments or Commons.
The Apartments/Commons application is available in Web Advisor and
the submission DEADLINE is SUNDAY, MARCH 25, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. (midnight).
The Apartments/Commons Lottery is Tuesday, April 3, 2018 4:00-7:00pm in East Hall Coffeehouse
Single rooms are assigned through an application process.
- You will be notified to come into the Residential Life Office on April 3, 2018 to select your single room.
- For specific locations of this years available single rooms 2018 Available Spaces"(see Quick Links above).
The Single Room application is available in Web Advisor and
the submission DEADLINE is WEDNESDAY, MARCH 28, 2018 at 12:00 a.m. (midnight).
This option allows one or more students to remain in the room they currently occupy, however, it does NOT mean you can leave your belongings in the room over the summer.
- Each current occupant may pull only ONE additional student into the room, and must fill the room to capacity. (eg.- 1 current occupant + 1 new occupant to a 2 person room; 2 current occupants + 1 new occupant to a 3 person room; 3 current occupants + 1 new occupant or 2 current occupants + 2 new occupants to a 4 person room.)
- Asbury, Skeath, single rooms, The Commons and the Apartments are not eligible for Continuous Occupancy. Occasionally additional rooms on campus are not eligible for this option because they have been re-designated for the coming year (i.e.- rooms set aside for freshman housing or newly approved cluster housing.)
- Rooms that have been "bought out" as single spaces for the current semester/year are only available to the current resident for continuous occupancy at the normal capacity. In other words, if the room is designated as a double room but is currently bought out as a single, the resident must find a roommate to pull into the room in order to retain the room for next year (this does not apply to Asbury & Skeath.)
- At least one current resident must come in person to request Continuous Occupancy. Any additional current resident(s) wishing to remain in the room and any new roommate(s) must appear at the same time either in person or by proxy using a Proxy Form.
Continuous Occupancy selection is Wednesday, April 4 & Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. in the Director of Residential Life Office, 1st floor Rich Hall.
The Affinity Housing Community program promotes the infusion of intellectual life into the residential setting by providing opportunities for individuals to live among others who express similar interests. Students choosing to be a member of an Affinity Housing Community will have the opportunity to develop and maintain a community that emphasizes the integration of academic, leadership, and/or personal interests with a residential environment. Affinity Housing Communities are made up of 15, 17, or 32 residents who:
- organize around a common shared intellectual or thematic interest
- practice self-governance (coordinated by a resident student Affinity Community Facilitator)
- hold authority to manage their own programming budget
- maintain a relationship with a faculty mentor
- develop their own practices and traditions
- set annual goals for programming and outreach consistent with the mission and purpose of the community

AFFINITY HOUSING APPLICATION
These rooms offer students the opportunity to live together in groups of 3-4.
All rooms must be filled to capacity at the time of selection. (eg.-to select a 4 person space, there must be 4 residents in attendance (in person or by proxy.)

DOUBLE ROOMS AND SUITE-STYLE ROOMS
Unless a current resident has opted for "Continuous Occupancy" these rooms are available for selection during the "General Lottery". See Quick Links above for a list of spaces that will be available in this lottery.
Double Rooms: Two person rooms in upper class halls on floors/wings with community bathrooms which are designated by gender.
- These rooms are selected during general lottery.
- Rooms are located in Williams Garden level.
- Students may "pull" a roommate into these rooms.
Suite-Style Rooms: Two rooms which are joined by a bathroom.
- Rooms are selected separately in general lottery sessions.
- Students may "pull" roommates into one room, but not into the adjoining room.
- Adjoining rooms are designated by gender.
- Floors/wings in Crever, Forrest and Williams Halls are co-ed.
- All rooms in Rich Hall are female.
- Any adjoining three person rooms not selected during the triple/quad lottery (see above section) will also be available for selection during the General Lottery.

Important Additional Notes:
After Wednesday, April 11, returning students who have not selected 2018-2019 housing by participating in any of the above lottery sessions must contact the Director in the Office of Residential Life to obtain housing for the upcoming academic year.
If you will be a Study Abroad Student or December Graduate
- Students who are registered to study abroad for the fall semester at the time of Lottery should not participate in the Lottery.
- Students who are not registered to study abroad for the fall semester at the time of Lottery may participate in the Lottery with the understanding s/he will be removed from the chosen space once the official “not-returning due to studying abroad” notification is received from the office of the Registrar.
- If you will be studying abroad in the fall, and would like to live in a specific space in campus housing when you return, we encourage you and the your intended roommate(s) to arrange for someone who requires housing accommodations for just one semester (i.e., spring study abroad, December Graduate) to fill the space for the fall semester. Should this expectation not be met, the College reserves the right to fill the vacancy(s) as needed and you will need to select alternate housing when you return.
- Students who reside with another student(s) who will be studying abroad for the spring semester or a December graduate are also encouraged to find a replacement to fill the empty space(s). Should this expectation not be met, the College reserves the right to fill the vacancy(s) as needed for the spring semester.
