GREETINGS
Hey there! My name is Kent Hayden and I’m a junior from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. In some ways, I feel the study of religion at Lycoming mirrors my personality. I am extremely active, fascinated by new academic pursuits, devoted to family and friends, and consistently attempt to maintain my faith as the center of my life. For me, majoring in religion and studying at Lycoming is a very natural fit.
Religion is an exciting major as it encompasses history, ancient languages, literature, ethics, philosophy, textual criticism, and even art. I am able to explore all of these areas while at the same time constantly evaluate and re-shape my personal beliefs.
Lycoming offers a strong education that allows students to explore a variety of academic fields. The flexibility of the curriculum has allowed me to take on a second major in Archaeology and a minor in Biblical Languages. The professors at Lycoming come here to teach and welcome new ideas and/or interpretations. The small class sizes open up the door for constant dialogue with the professors and fellow students and creates a rewarding class experience.
Finally, as a student preparing for seminary and the ordained ministry, the Theological Professions Advisory Committee and the student-run United Campus Ministry have been great bases of peer support. These organizations allow students to be engaged outside the classroom. At Lycoming, we have many student peer ministers and sometimes students are invited to give sermons at a near by churches.
I am thankful for my time at Lycoming and hope to soak up even more new experiences and insights from my professors and peers.
Good luck to you in your college search.
