Physics and Astronomy, 2012
Activities: Society of Physics Students, Commuter Student Organization, Research Assistant
Hometown: Ilion, New York
High School: Ilion High School
Most Influential Professor: Dr. Kulp and I have been working on a research project together that has given me even more enthusiasm for physics; I didn’t think it was possible! He also helped me get admitted to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Boulder, CO as a paid summer research assistant.
Favorite Part of Lycoming: These professors really are the bee’s knees. I would have never made it this far in the major without them. Even when they aren’t in their offices, they are never far; whether in one of the labs or in another classroom, you can always find them.
Getting Involved: Getting involved with the Society of Physics Students and the Commuter Student Organization have given me the opportunity to go on several trips - kayaking, Ocean City, MD, Goddard in Greenbelt, MD, Penn State''s nuclear reactor, etc. Thanks to participating in research with Dr. Kulp, I even have a published paper!
Advice: Don''t give up! If you’re interested in physics, stick with it – there are plenty of people at Lycoming that want to help you succeed! Introduction to physics was rough, but I powered though and I haven’t looked back. Don''t let anyone belittle your successes, take pride in every accomplishment!
