Most Influential Professor: Dr. Gabriel has given me a new love for science. I never enjoyed science classes in high school, so I dreaded my science courses in college. Dr. Gabriel creates a relaxed, comfortable learning environment and uses fun games and his sense of humor to put you at ease and make science fun. He’s taught me that just because I haven’t done something well in the past, doesn’t mean I can’t do well in the future.
Favorite Part of Class: Within my majors, there’s a lot of room for interpretation. Dr. Knauth is wonderful at giving us the opportunity to form our own interpretations. She starts by giving us an example of how she interprets something based on evidence. Then, she opens it up to the class by explaining her interpretation isn’t necessarily the right one, because there are many interpretations and everyone sees something different. I enjoy exploring her interpretation and then forming my own.
Getting Involved: One of the things I love most about Lycoming is that you don’t need to have a major in theatre to participate in performances. So far, I’ve been cast in five shows! There is literally something for everyone in theatre. If acting isn't your thing, we’re always looking for carpenters and painters for set design, tech experts for lighting and sound, designers for costumes and sets, and someone to sell our tickets. I wouldn’t want to spend my time outside of class any other way.
Advice: Don’t be afraid to take risks. College is the ideal environment to take advantage of new opportunities. You can try so many different things in college, whether it’s a class, a club or an activity. Take advantage of it, because you never know when you’ll have some of these opportunities again!
