Theatre, Directing Track, 2020
Hometown: Philadelphia, PA
High School: Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA)
Activities at Lycoming: Theatre Productions (Almost Maine, The Clone Wars, and Hansel and Gretel)
My most influential professor: My first year seminar professor, Darby Lewes, was one of the most knowledgeable people I’ve ever met. The discussions we had in her class were incredible, and I won't forget them. Her class taught us how to become more confident speaking in front of the class, which in turn has helped my presentation skills.
Favorite class: My favorite class was Acting 1 with Dr. Biliana Stoytcheva-Horissian, not just because I love theatre, but because the people in my class were awesome. My Acting 1 classmates were very humorous, and I felt so comfortable around them. It was a class full of creativity where students could explore so many different aspects of theatre. And the warm-ups were fun.
Best Lycoming opportunity: I have received many great opportunities through the theatre department. During my first semester, I went with other theatre majors to Canada for the Shaw Festival, a major non-profit Canadian theatre festival in Ontario. It was awesome! We got to see four shows as well as have a backstage tour and converse with some of the actors.
Why Lycoming is different: There's always something going on every day -- sometimes even several activities! Some of my favorites were the Campus Carnival, Welcome of New Language Assistants, Dance Show, and the Christmas Candlelight service.
Advice for incoming students: My advice for incoming students is to remember that life happens. You can be so organized, planner intact and all, but sometimes mistakes happen. Don't get discouraged; learn from your mistakes! Mistakes help to shape the person you are, or will become. And if you mess up, don’t make excuses, just accept the situation and move on. Also, never be afraid to ask for help because there are a lot of resources on campus to help you.
