Most influential professor: Dr. Ramsey (a.k.a. J-Rams, DJ Jazzy J-Money and Captain Chem). From his fun nicknames to his teaching style, Dr. Ramsey separates himself from every professor I’ve met. He exemplifies what it means to be a scholar, a mentor and a friend. No matter what the circumstance is, Dr. Ramsey makes himself available when you need help and creates innovative ways to promote learning. He prioritizes his students’ success and genuinely cares about those around him. He is a “super-prof” because of the charisma, passion and respect he exhibits in and out of the classroom.

Favorite class experience: I’d say my favorite class experience was Quantitative Chemical Analysis with Dr. Ramsey. The class had only 10 students and we met every day of the semester. Never before had I been part of a class that evolved into such a cohesive unit, despite our different personalities and class years. Through labs and classroom discussions, we shared ideas and experiences that led to lasting friendships. By the end of the semester, we were referring to ourselves as a family. This is a testament to the welcoming attitude at Lycoming College.

My big college moment: Although my college experience thus far has been peppered with influential memories, my biggest moments have yet to occur. I will be an NCAA national wrestling champion, and I will graduate with high honors. Wrestling has taught me about discipline, commitment and drive. Those lessons have carried into all aspects of my life, and, coupled with my competitive nature, they have resulted in high aspirations. Now at Lycoming College, I have the atmosphere, opportunities, resources, and most importantly the confidence to reach my goals and fulfill my athletic and academic dreams.

Why I chose Lycoming: My final decision to attend Lycoming followed a visit to campus. At the time, I had been considering a few schools, but after observing the atmosphere on campus I knew this was the school for me. I really appreciated how classrooms offered more personal settings focused on student success where student-professor interaction was encouraged. I felt confident Lycoming would allow me to perform as a successful student athlete. Most importantly, Lycoming stood out because I had the overwhelming sense on campus of community. The interactions I witnessed expressed an unspoken unity that made me feel like I belonged and motivated me to choose Lycoming.

Advice for incoming students: Find your passion and explore it. Lycoming will offer you the chances you need to grow as a person, so take advantage of those opportunities. Remember to work hard and above all: never stop improving.
