G.W. Hawkes is primarily a novelist, though his short fiction has appeared in GQ, The Atlantic, Missouri Review, Ploughshares, Travel & Leisure Golf, and other journals. He has published two collections of stories, Spies in the Blue Smoke (1993) and Playing Out of the Deep Woods (1995), and has published three novels: Surveyor (1998), Semaphore (1998), and Gambler's Rose (2000). Recent awards include a fellowship in fiction from the National Endowment for the Arts.
