Music Education, 2008
Choir director at Briarcliff Middle School in Mountain Lakes, N.J.; owner and operator of Scarangello Music Studio; and a professional mezzo-soprano
My job doesn't feel like work! It is a great joy to work with the choral ensembles at my school as well as throughout the region and state. My private studio allows me to work more in-depth with young singers and piano players, which is very fulfilling. Singing professionally in small opera organizations and choirs has been the most exciting aspect of my life, but it has also proved to be the most challenging!
Lycoming set me up with so many opportunities to perform and refine my talents in singing and teaching. The network of professors and administrators that I came in contact with during my four years at Lycoming College are some of the most supportive people I've ever met, and they continue to challenge and support me even after I've left Lycoming's campus. There is such a wealth of opportunity in the Williamsport area for young musicians and teachers, and I was truly able to make the best of my education because of that.
I loved all of my music professors! My most treasured memories, however, are with Dr. Thayer and the Lycoming College Tour Choir. Dr. Thayer was an incredible support and mentor to me. I also have to give a "shout-out" to my favorite sorority girls in Gamma Delta Sigma. Being a member of that sisterhood was an incredible experience that will stay with me forever.
I love to spend time with my husband, John Scarangello '08, and our crazy Jack Russell Terrier, Baxter. When I'm alone and "free," I like to spend time outside, working out, reading, and cooking and baking. As my sorority sisters would say, I'm loving the "domestic" life.
