Thomas A. Griffiths, Ph.D., Provost and Dean of the College and Professor of Biology

Dr. Griffiths joined Lycoming College in July 2007 after a 26-year tenure at Illinois Wesleyan University. At Illinois Wesleyan, Dr. Griffiths held several administrative positions including Acting Dean of the Faculty, Associate Dean of the Faculty and Director of the Mellon Center for Faculty and Curriculum Development. An accomplished scholar, Dr. Griffiths held an endowed professorship as the Earl H. and Marion A. Beling Professor of Natural Science. Dr. Griffiths' specializations include evolution and anatomy. He is a member of several professional societies, including the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the American Conference of Academic Deans, and the American Society of Mammalogists. He has conducted numerous biological research projects and has published extensively in professional journals. Dr. Griffiths has been recognized for his teaching excellence and campus leadership, and was twice named Professor of the Year at Illinois Wesleyan. In 1991, he was selected as one of America's "Top 10 College Professors" by Rolling Stone Magazine. Dr. Griffiths holds a bachelor of science in biology from Bates College, a master of science in zoology from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Massachusetts. He is a member of the academic honor societies Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi.

Charles "Chip" W. Edmonds, M.Div., Vice President for College Advancement

Mr. Edmonds returned to Lycoming College in August 2009 as vice president for college advancement. Most recentlly, he served as a development officer at Yale University.. At Yale, he was responsible for soliciting alumni, friends, foundations and corporations for gifts at levels of $100,000 and more and fundraised for Yale Tomorrow, a five-year, $3.5 billion campaign. Prior to joining Yale, Mr. Edmonds served as a major gifts officer at Lycoming for nearly two years. His background includes working at the Duke University Divinity School as director of the annual fund, and a development associate with the Duke Youth Academy. From 1998 to 2002, Mr. Edmonds worked at Lycoming as the assistant director of admissions and development assistant. Mr. Edmonds earned a master of divinity degree from the Duke University Divinity School and holds a bachelor's degree in history and music with a minor in business management from Lycoming College.

Sue S. Gaylor, Ed.D., Vice President for Planning

Dr. Gaylor arrived at Lycoming in 2003 after completing a doctorate in higher education administration from Harvard University. Her research interests center on leadership and decision-making at private liberal arts colleges. While at Harvard, she served as a Teaching Fellow from 1998 to 2003. Previously, Dr. Gaylor served as an Academic Counselor at Dartmouth College, a Freshmen Proctor at Harvard University, and Special Assistant to the President at Wheelock College. She earned an Ed.M. in administration, planning and social policy at Harvard University and graduated with an A.B. in psychology from Dartmouth College.

Daniel P. Miller, Ed.D., Dean of Student Affairs

Dr. Miller joined the Lycoming administration in 2005. Previously, Dr. Miller was the Vice President for Student Services and Planning at Ferrum College in Virginia. He began his career as Director of Admissions for Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS and served as Director of Enrollment Management and Vice President for College Relations at Alvernia College in Reading, PA. Dr. Miller has an Ed.D. in higher education leadership from Widener University. He also holds a B.S. in business management from St. John Fisher College and a M.S. degree in higher education administration from Syracuse University.

James D. Spencer, Vice President of Admissions and Financial Aid

Mr. Spencer arrived at Lycoming in 1989. During his tenure at Lycoming, Mr. Spencer has consistently led the College to its enrollment goals. He has guided Lycoming to records in number of applicants, academic measures of entering classes such as SAT scores and high school class rank, and the percentage of students from out of state. Prior to Lycoming, Mr. Spencer previously served as the director of admissions at Rocky Mountain College in Montana and as assistant director of admissions at his alma mater Concordia College where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1975.
