Lycoming College President: James E. Douthat.

Lycoming College welcomes the Class of 2016. Our new students hail from 19 states and six foreign countries, including 11 students from Vietnam. The class boasts SAT scores well above national and state average; 57 of the new students received invitations to Lycoming's Scholars Program and 22 are high school valedictorians or salutatorians. Though their academic interests are diverse, many students plan to pursue study in the College's archaeology, biology, business, criminal justice, education and psychology programs. The class will see the highest number of students planning to pursue majors in astronomy, physics and chemistry when compared to previously enrolled classes. Outside the classroom, one out of three students plan to participate in varsity athletics and one out of four plans to participate in College's music and theatre ensembles.

As we begin the 2012-13 academic year, Lycoming finds itself with the strongest financial foundation, the finest facilities, the highest credentialed faculty and best-prepared student body in the school's 200 year history.

I am particularly proud that Lycoming has continued to follow the traditional liberal arts and sciences model that is characterized by small classes taught by full-time senior faculty. Most educators would agree that such a structure creates the best educational delivery system in higher education. Over 90% of our classes are taught by full-time permanent faculty members, a statistic few colleges and universities can claim. Lycoming's 14:1 student-faculty ratio is established with very few part-time or non-permanent faculty and no graduate students as instructors.

Lycoming College is ranked as a Tier 1 national liberal arts college by US News & World Report. In addition, the College is listed as one of the 300 "Best Buys" in the nation by Barron's, one of 400 colleges in Thomson Peterson's Guide to Competitive Colleges, one of "The Best Northeastern Colleges" by The Princeton Review, and as one of 240 Colleges of Distinction, a guide which recognize institutions with "engaged students, great teaching, a vibrant community, and successful outcomes." In addition to such fine academic assessments, we are proud that Lycoming is one of only 90 colleges and universities nationwide to have earned an "A" rating from Standard and Poor's -- a testament to Lycoming College's stable financial foundation from which the academic and extracurricular activities are created.
